Hi, winmum here,

Thought I’d tell you about my holiday from hell.

A couple of years ago we couldnt really afford a holiday but we had just sold our house and decided that to get over the stress of moving we would book a last minute package deal to majorca. Well, all was well and we didn’t really know where the place we were going to was, but it was a cheap deal and we thought “well it’s a family place so should be alright”.

After landing at Palma airport, we were told to go to the coach that would take us to the hotel, which we did. We boarded the coach and sat down with the children. We waited for the coach to fill up and take us and we waited and we waited and we waited. Eventually the driver boarded the coach after a two hour wait.

We started our journey with very unhappy children, on what turned out to be a two hour drive.

We pulled up outside the hotel four hours later than we had expected and the children were hot, miserable and hungry.

We eventually got the keys to the rooms which were meant to be next door to each other but ended up on different floors. We were so shattered we thought “oh well we will just make do”. We got changed and went downstairs to check out the place - well all my little one saw was the pool and ran towards it before we could stop him and fell head first into the deep end. Well my heart jumped out of my chest as my husband jumped in fully clothed to drag him out as there were no lifeguards around the pool. Thankfully he was ok, just shaken.

We thought things couldn’t get any worse…but they did. We were told that the restaurant was open and we could go and get our meals. Well I thought the children must be starving so we got everyone together and went into the dining hall. There were flies everywhere on the tables, on the food which wasn’t covered and everyone said it was always like that. Needless to say, no way was I letting my family eat anything there. We went to a local family bar and ate there. We came back to the hotel for a rest.

We went down for the evenings entertainment which consisted of one woman to entertain about 20 children; it was absolutely horrendous all the songs she sang were in Spanish so none of the children understood what was going on. Eventually they played a game of bingo, to my delight. Then they decided that was enought entertainment for the night so it was over by 9pm.

We had gone all inclusive but it was so rubbish we had to go to the bureau de change to get cash to get us throught the next nine days. We decided to call the tour operator and complain, but they just palmed us off. Well, we decided that we would go to the beach rather than spend all our time at the hotel as it was so rubbish.

On the fifth day, we thought “oh well might as well sit around the pool and relax”. I got up to put some sunscreen on my children and to get a drink from the outside bar for myself and hubby. As I walked to the bar I slipped on some sun oil that someone had let fall over and went flying - I came down to earth at a terrible angle and just knew that I had hurt myself quite bad. My husband came rushing to my aid aswell as other holidaymakers. But I just could not stand on my leg - they went to reception who called the doctor - who sent me to hospital in a taxi which took about an hour.

To my horror x rays showed I had broken my ankle. They could only bandage it up untill the swelling went down. I went back 48 hrs later to have a cast put on which they had to leave open because of flying back. As soon as we arrived home I was in a plaster cast for six weeks.

So…needless to say it was a holiday from hell.

We are going away in five weeks to Majorca but this time we have vetted the place we are going to and I just hope that it is a better experience this time.
